Who we are

A real shed, run by real blokes, for real blokes.

The Pines Community Men’s Shed sits on Stringybark Crescent in Frankston North – you’ve probably driven past the mural a hundred times. Inside, you’ll find a workshop full of tools, a kitchen that always has the kettle on, and a group of blokes who genuinely want you there.

We’re a not-for-profit incorporated association, affiliated with Men’s Shed Victoria (VMSA) and the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA). We’re solar-powered, council-supported, and run entirely by volunteers who care more about the blokes who walk through the door than anything else.

What the blokes are saying

Every single new member says the same thing.

We hear it every week. And it never gets old.

Why the pines mens shed

We’re not just any shed. Here’s what makes us different.

We build for the whole community – not just ourselves

Every week, something leaves this shed as a gift. Mud kitchens for kindergartens. Pegboards for the community centre. Furniture for neighbours. No invoice. No fanfare. Just blokes doing good things with their hands – and being proud of it.

The lowest commitment way to find your people

No contracts. No forms. No waiting list. It’s as simple as walk in during open hours, have a cuppa, have a look around. We’re pretty sure you will love the place and the people. Most blokes who come once are back the very next week.

It costs almost nothing. Seriously

Visit the Shed with a gold coin donation – that covers your tea, coffee, and materials. Annual membership is $60 a year. Less than a tank of petrol. The shed is not run for profit, and fees are set so that cost is never the reason someone doesn’t show up.

Every bloke who walks in says the same thing.

We hear it from someone new most weeks when they finally make it down to the shed: “I wish I’d come sooner.” Not a joke, but a real sentiment. It’s what happens when you stop putting it off and come have a look.

how it works

What actually happens when you walk through the door

No forms. No induction day. No awkward first-day-of-school feeling. Here’s all it takes.

1

Show up during Open hours

Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm. 14 Stringybark Crescent, Frankston North. No appointment needed – just walk in.

2

Someone puts the kettle on

You’ll be introduced to the blokes, shown around the workshop, and handed a cuppa. That’s the whole welcome process.

3

Find something to work on

Have a look at what’s on the go. Ask questions. Pick up a tool. Or just have a yarn. There’s no wrong way to spend a morning.

4

Come back next week

That’s what most blokes do. You’ll have a project on the go, a seat saved, and people who know your name.

Do you have questions about the “Mens Shed near me?”

The Men’s Shed is one of the best Australian charities – see if our answers can help you.

A men’s shed is a community workshop where blokes come together to make things, lend a hand, and have a chat – no agenda, no pressure. Ours is in Frankston North. We use real tools, real projects, and a fresh cuppa is always nearby. You don’t need to be very “handy” – you just need to show up.

You show up, someone puts the kettle on, and you get shown around. The workshop has a full range of woodworking tools and equipment. Some blokes work on personal projects – a chessboard, a butcher’s block, a piece of furniture. Others pitch in on community builds, like the mud kitchens we donate to local kindergartens. There’s always morning tea and always a good chat. It’s a lot more relaxed than it sounds, and a lot better than staying home.

Public visitors are welcome Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm. No appointment needed – just show up. We’re at 14 Stringybark Crescent, Frankston North VIC 3200. You’ll recognise us by the mural on the outside of the building. If you’re unsure, give us a ring on 03 9786 1008 before you come.

Nothing complicated. Be respectful, follow basic workshop safety with the tools, and that’s about it. No dress code, no roster, no homework. Brian or one of the regulars will run you through anything tool-specific the first time you pick something up.

Not a single bit. Brian’s first project at the shed was a chessboard – he figured it out as he went. That’s the actual rule here: no experience needed. Members learn from each other, help each other, and nobody is expected to know anything on day one. If you can hold a cuppa and have a chat, you’re already qualified.

Visitors are welcome with a gold coin donation – that covers your tea, coffee, and basic materials. Annual membership is $60 per year, with concession rates available for pensioners. We’re not-for-profit and the fees are set specifically so that cost is never the reason someone doesn’t come. Think of it as less than a coffee a week.

The framing that works every time: “Just go and have a look – you don’t have to commit to anything.” One visit, no pressure, no obligation. You can also call us on 03 9786 1008 and have a chat first – Brian’s happy to talk it through. And if it helps, you can tell him honestly: every bloke who goes says the same thing afterwards. “I wish I’d come sooner.”

Yes. We’re an incorporated not-for-profit association, affiliated with the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) – the national governing body – and Men’s Shed Victoria (VMSA). Our public liability insurance is maintained through AMSA. We’re council-supported and our 34-panel solar system was funded by a Frankston City Council grant. This is a serious community institution that’s been part of Frankston North for years.

Absolutely – and we welcome it. If you’re a health professional looking to refer a patient, feel free to call us directly on 03 9786 1008 or email pinesmensshed@bigpond.com. We’re happy to answer any questions and make the referral process as smooth as possible. We’re also listed through the AMSA national shed directory for formal referral pathways.
